LOTF Importance

A critical scene from "Lord of the Flies" was the death of Piggy. When Piggy was struck by a huge rock, the author stated that Piggy," fell forty feet and landed on his back across the square red rock in the sea. His head opened and stuff came out and turned red", stated on pg. 181. As Piggy was struck, the conch, stated on pg.181," exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist". The conch was a symbol of authority throughout the book. Ralph had no one in his group anymore after Simon and Piggy's death. Jack notice that Ralph has no power anymore because Castle Rock, Jack's group, had a lot of members.
Piggy's death also sends a message to the audience that Ralph might get killed by Castle Rock. The twins, Sam and Eric, states in Chapter 12 on pg. 188 that," They hate you. They're going to do you. They're going to hunt you tomorrow". Ralph soon runs away in the forest to escape from Castle Rock. When Jack scared Sam and Eric , Sam and Eric told Jack that he was there. Ralph, on pg. 200," looked up at a huge peaked cap". He was rescued which was led by Piggy's death.
